Digital Footprint Part 1
So today we are going to talk about your Digital footprint on social media. Every brand or person can have a digital footprint. Basically, it's your presence on the internet. A digital footprint is made up of anything you put online or represents you online. Some of the major components of your footprint are below.
Social media
Website
Reputation
On social media, your footprint consists of the content you post, the content you like and the conversations you have. Rule number one is post content that you stand by and believe that your users want to see. Only post content that at a snapshot glance still represents your brand. Are you ever surprised when something is taken out of context on the internet? In this day and age, you shouldn’t be. The truth of the matter is when scrolling through social media you get a 1-second chance to get a users attention and maybe 10 seconds after that if they find your content amusing, helpful, or it speaks to them. Providing context in 10 seconds doesn’t happen to often, so be sure this is going through your mind when you developing content.
On social media your interactions are public as well, the content you interact with you are either saying you rock with it or you don’t. Some examples are as follows. If I see a political post and I give it the thumbs up that means by extension I’m telling the world our brand agrees with this. If your brand comes across content that makes them upset and they use the angry sentiment on Facebook, they are letting the world know that hey we aren’t ok with this. I know it may seem like a simple interaction social media algorithms will place that similar content and your interactions in front of other users and now something you interacted with becomes an extension of your brand.
